Samsung announced Galaxy S8 & S8 Plus
Last year, Note 7 debacle made Samsung stocks plummet for a while, but after some time, it gained back its position in the stocks. With the release of Galaxy S7 Edge, Samsung learned a lot and changed many things in the design. Water and dust proofing, SD card and some other features were back in these phones. Now Samsung stocks are higher than ever due to the Galaxy S8 and S8 plus. The new phones are gorgeous in every way. Some are saying it the perfect phones ever. Let’s wait for the reviews as the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will go on sale on April 21st, 2017. Take a look at what these phones are capable of doing. Here are all the specs and features of Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus:
With the release of Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, Samsung started something that changed the way we see smartphones today. The new phones were great, and the unique thing about the S6 Edge was the edge display. It looked and felt great in hands. Now everyone thought that what Samsung will do with their new smartphones? Today, Samsung announced the new generation of the Galaxy series. The Galaxy S8 & S8 plus has an infinity display. The display looks fascinating on both phones. Every other phone now looks outdated in front of these new gadgets. The Galaxy S8 has a 5.8-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2960 x 1440, and pixel density of 570ppi. On the other hand, the Galaxy S8 Plus has a 6.2-inch OLED panel with 2960 x 1440 resolution and 529ppi screen density.
Since the release of Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, Samsung is taking over other phone manufacturers in the camera business. Every Samsung flagship phone now has a great camera. In this generation of Galaxy series, Samsung kept the same sensor on the back of the phone, but the front camera is now 8 Mega Pixel in resolution with f1.7 aperture. The front facing camera also has auto-focus which means that you can take sharp and focused selfies. The Bixby assistant is also integrated with the rear camera for recognizing objects. Rear camera in the Galaxy S8 and S8 plus is same with 12 Mega Pixel resolution and f1.7 aperture.
The age of AI is taking over, and companies are focused on making their digital assistants better every day. The Galaxy S8 and S8 plus now has their digital assistant named as Bixby Assistant instead of S Voice. The new Bixby is different than Google Assistant which is available on all Android Marshmallow and Nougat devices. It can recognize objects and make suggestions. It can also suggest Amazon prices and links to the objects after identifying them with the camera. Till now, Bixby is exclusive to the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. There is also a dedicated button on left side for Bixby.
Just like Microsoft’s Windows Continuum, Samsung DeX is a standalone dock that might be sold separately. You can use apps, display media on a large screen using this dock. The apps can be used on the desktop after connecting your phone with the help of this dock.
The software is an essential part of a phone, but Samsung never listened to their customers in this department. The crappy TouchWiz is way better than it was years ago but it still sucks. The phone is full of useless apps and strange features that most of the people might not use. The Samsung’s take on Android Nougat is awful as we have seen in recent Galaxy S7 Edge update to Nougat. Instead of hardware home button and keys, S8 and S8 Plus now have virtual or soft keys. The home button has force touch like feature. The app drawer can be opened by swiping up just like Pixel Launcher. The edge screen is now more customizable.
Other important features of the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus include a face detection lock screen, Iris (eye) scanner, fingerprint scanner, dedicated Bixby button. The phone is still IP68 rating which means that it is dust and water resistant. The wireless charging is still there. It has USB-C now. You can also expand storage via micro-SD slot up to 256GB.
