Stop Windows 10 from automatic updates in every build
Windows 10 anniversary update for desktops and Mobile versions rolled out in all over the world to eligible devices. But there are few changes in the desktop version that may create issues for some users. As everyone knows that Windows 10 has automatic update feature that can eat bandwidth as well as it might create problems for mobile data users. In the latest update, Microsoft changed the way to turn them Off. So here is how you can turn off Windows 10 Automatic update in newer versions.`
There are two ways to turn off Windows 10 automatic update. The first one is if you have power saving mode On then Windows will not download updates to save power. The other and efficient way to turn Off updates is by turning ON metered connection. Make your connection a metered connection and Windows will not download updates on that network. In previous builds you can enable the option by visiting:
Settings > Networks & Internet > Wi-Fi (name) > Advanced options > Turn on Metered connection.
But in August build Microsoft made this tricky. Now you have to navigate more than the previous build. Here is how you can turn off Windows 10 Automatic update in newer builds:
Turn off Windows 10 Automatic update in new builds:
Settings > Networks & Internet > Wi-Fi > Manage Known Networks > Click on your network & Click Properties button > Now set that network as metered connection.
It was easy, but Microsoft buried this feature in the new version of Windows 10. If you have an Ethernet connection, then you can’t stop updates via this method. Also, if you have a Wi-Fi network but your PC is connected to the ethernet then you should connect with Wi-Fi to turn off Windows 10 automatic update. You can set Wi-Fi as priority by this method:
Settings > Networks & Internet > Ethernet > Change Adapter Options > You will see control panel window > Right click on Ethernet and disable it to connect via Wi-Fi.
You can also connect via Wi-Fi with the Wi-Fi button in the taskbar. But that will not be permanent 🙂
I hope this helped you and if it did then don’t forget to share it with friends as it will help me. Also, like my Facebook page as well for more. 🙂
